BTCC Special – Super Sunday Silverware – How the day unfolded!.

Hi all,

Yes the sun really did shine on Super Sunday for a day of cricket which will live long in the memory!

1st XI Team Win Wombat Devon T20 Competition!

2nd XI Team Win Aaron Printers T20 Cup …… for the third year in a row!

How the day unfolded ………

The day began at 10am when the 1st XI walked out at Exmouth to play their Wombat T20 semi final against Exeter. Having lost the toss and being put into the field we bowled brilliantly to restrict Exeter to 105 for 7 in their 20 overs.

All the bowlers picked up wickets with Seb Ansley being outstanding picking up 3 for 15 off his 4 overs including an almost extinct T20 maiden over. We all thought he had picked up a hat trick in the middle spell – oh so close!

In reply an unbeaten 63 off 52 balls from Ash Causey saw us safely home to win by 7 wickets.

Deep breath and run across to South Devon for the 2 pm start of the Aaron Printers T20 Cup Final …….

Winning the toss, skipper Dan Green elected to field – we bowled and fielded well, restricting Ipplepen to a creditable 126 for 9 in their 20 overs. All 6 bowlers picked up wickets – Archie Christophers took 2 for 26 off his 4 overs and Aussie Jonah Serong picked up 3 for 26 off his 4 overs.

We went in to bat just as the 1st XI were taking to the field in Exmouth in their final – 2 finals on at the same time!!!

Our batting reply was a little stifled to start with due to good bowling from Ipplepen and at 37 for 3 after 8 overs, we were a little off the pace ……. nervous spectators ….

What happened next was simply spectacular ….. skipper Dan Green arrived at the wicket. I described him a couple of weeks ago in the semi-final as "being in one of those moods" – well 2 weeks ago was nothing compared to this……

Dan hit a huge 55 off just 25 balls including 5 fours and 5 sixes destroying the Ipplepen attack in just 6 overs.

When Dan was finally out we had reached 108 for 4 and Tom Andrew (27 not out) watched on as Archie Christophers launched the second ball of the 16th over for six to finish off in style!

Time to celebrate …….winning the Aaron Printers Trophy for the 3rd year in a row. Dan Green also picked up the Man of the Match Trophy

………. and then rush back to Exmouth for the Wombat Final against top of the Devon league Sandford.

Having won the toss and with the sun having been out all day, we elected to bat – we struggled against some excellent Sandford bowling and made it to 105 for 7 in our 20 overs. The innings was held together by an unbeaten 52 off 47 balls from skipper Lewis Hammett.

Taking the field, Pete Bradley took 2 early wickets and Seb Ansley 1 as Sandford started quickly getting to 60 for 3 after just 9 overs.

A caught and bowled from Will Christophers in the 10th over and 2 wickets in consecutive balls from Ollie Clifford-Bourne in the 11th over started to change the dynamic as Sandford lurched to 66 for 6……

Enter Toby Codd bowling a wicket maiden in the 14th over, just one run from Will’s 15th over, another wicket for Toby in the 16th over and all of a sudden Sandford were 80 for 8…..

Will Christophers finished them off in the 17th over with 2 LBW’s in consecutive balls – a win by 23 runs and Devon T20 champions!

This was a simply amazing day – firstly getting 2 high quality T20 teams out, fabulous fielding and brilliant teamwork – and it wasn’t just about Super Sunday….. It was all about everyone who played in the teams getting us to Super Sunday.

The silverware will be on display this coming week and I suspect there may be just a few "thick heads" going in to work today!

Later this week I will also cover a brilliant win for the Women’s Team away at Bradninch and Kentisbeare – 4 out of 4 on Super Sunday!

Well done everyone – proud day for Bovey Tracey!!
