BTCC Weekly Update – Friday Night, Somerset Preview, Cricket Camp, Lady Taverners Competition, Wine and Wickets and More!.

Hi all

Phew …………so it has stopped raining this morning after constant rain yesterday and the forecast from the Met Office is looking a little more optimistic for the weekend! Everything crossed!

Friday Night is on as usual – bar open from around 5.30pm, with junior training starting at 6pm – food as usual courtesy of Jackie.

There will be lots going on around us on Friday evening as we set up for the Devon vs Somerset game on Sunday so we might be after volunteers for a little help in between drinks and food!

Grounds Team, Preparation and Volunteers

The grounds team have done a huge job so far this week with covers on, covers off, covers on, covers off (yep officially lost count of the number of times they have been moved!) ………. for the first time ever we have tried to cover the entire square as best we can ….. a massive effort by all to give ourselves the best chance. Thank you to them all. They are back at the ground at 9am this morning having left around 8.30pm last night (and later the night before!!)

Today our efforts turn to wider preparations – black site screens, building the outside bars, organising seating and concession areas ……… and taking covers off and on to maximise drying time in between any showers! Then on Friday we get into full flow, moving the marquee, taking delivery of tables and toilets, setting up 75 metres of security fencing , putting all the signage up and buying in our bar stock, getting the car park at Wifford Farm ready – so not a dull moment!

Final preparations then on Saturday after the 2nd XI game with all the concessions and stands arriving early on Sunday morning before the gates open at 9.30am

We are truly grateful to everyone who has helped out so far and the 60 volunteers who are helping on the day – running the car park, on the entrance gate, selling scorecards and raffle tickets, supporting our hospitality tent, marshalling the site, litter picking, marshalling the site, working in the bars, serving drinks and food, selling ice creams and cream teas, taking photos, working on the pitch, first aid, taking photos, organising a children’s guard of honour and of course feeding the players and match officials before, during and after the game……..

Summer Camp

Despite some decidedly "un-summer" weather the team have held 3 days of training this week with over 40 children attending each day – based on the smiles I have seen so far, the camp has gone down really well …….. including some magnificent catching challenges in the "high ball competition"!!

Thanks to all our coaches who have supported this week and to all parents for your support as well

Under 11 Girls – Lady Taverners Competition

The Under 11 Girls Team played their Lady Taverners competition at Hatherleigh on Tuesday – they won 2 games and lost 2 games.
The girls had a great day and performed brilliantly with just 6 of them. Thanks to all the parents for supporting this on a weekday and to Tim Flint for his first shot at umpiring!

Wine and Wickets is Back
We are delighted to confirm we will be running Wine and Wickets again on Friday 18th August – a fun session for anyone and everyone, with no experience required – all participants will be rewarded with some fizz (or anything you prefer!) after the session.

Give it a try if you haven’t already!

Please contact Kelly Luscombe for more details – kellyluscombe

We all hope to see you on Friday evening and on Sunday!
