BTCC Weekly Update – After The Rain Came The Wind And Then The Sun – Vitality Club T20 Finals Day, Wine and Wickets – Lost Property and Lots More!

Hi all

Let’ start at the end with the vaguest of hints from the Met Office that some summer weather might be arriving after the wettest July that many of us can remember! Hooray!!

We are all set for this Friday with the bar open from 5.30pm, junior training starting at 6pm and food as usual from Jackie and the team.

We still have some "specials" left over after the Devon and Somerset game so keep an eye out on the boards and tables.

We have some great cricket coming up this week – some really important fixtures on Saturday – please do come and support!

  • On Thursday (tomorrow)
    • We have a Firefighters match at 6pm at the Recreation Ground where the Bovey Tracey Watch are taking on the Ashburton Watch – it promises to be a fun-filled evening so please do come and support – the bar will be open!

    • The 2nd XI play an important match vs Seaton at home at 12.30pm

    • The 2nd XI play Ipplepen 2nd XI in the Dick Lear T20 Cup at Ipplepen at 2pm – this match brings together the winners of the Devon Aaron Printers Cup (us!) against the winners of the Devon Brockman Cup (Ipplepen who narrowly beat us in the final!)

    • Ther U19 Team are in action again away at Ipplepen

As ever, support for any and all of the matches is very welcome!

After The Rain Came The Wind

So after the rain tried to hamper the Devon vs Somerset game, last weekend the wind arrived with a vengeance – I don’t think I have ever seen such a summer storm at Bovey and it took its toll.

We lost one of the sight screens and also the new fencing by the car park suffered given the wind was in the North West and hitting it at right angles! We also saw the big white screens at the pavilion end pulled from their mountings!

Thanks to some valiant work early this week by Tony England and Darren Harvey, helped in no small part by Dennis the landrover pulling the steel poles back to the vertical, the fencing has been repaired temporarily until we can find a more permanent solution. The Ground Crew also repaired the wire which holds up the white sheeting at the pavilion end today so we are good to go for this weekend!

The sight screen will take a little longer as we have had to order in new steel – I don’t think any of us ever thought the wind could break 5 centimetre square steel posts!

Vitality Club T20 Finals Day

Well done to the 1st XI who took part in the Vitality Club T20 Finals Day at Bridgwater last Sunday – having won the Devon T20 competition, the team got to the last 32 teams nationally. They came up against a very strong Bristol side and lost their semi final match. The eventual winners on the day were Swansea Cricket Club (effectively Glamorgan 2nd XI!!)

Wine and Wickets is Back – A Reminder

We are delighted to confirm we will be running Wine and Wickets again on Friday 18th August – a fun session for anyone and everyone, with no experience required – all participants will be rewarded with some fizz (or anything you prefer!) after the session.

Give it a try if you haven’t already!
