After The Rain Came The Wind
So after the rain tried to hamper the Devon vs Somerset game, last weekend the wind arrived with a vengeance – I don’t think I have ever seen such a summer storm at Bovey and it took its toll.
We lost one of the sight screens and also the new fencing by the car park suffered given the wind was in the North West and hitting it at right angles! We also saw the big white screens at the pavilion end pulled from their mountings!
Thanks to some valiant work early this week by Tony England and Darren Harvey, helped in no small part by Dennis the landrover pulling the steel poles back to the vertical, the fencing has been repaired temporarily until we can find a more permanent solution. The Ground Crew also repaired the wire which holds up the white sheeting at the pavilion end today so we are good to go for this weekend!
The sight screen will take a little longer as we have had to order in new steel – I don’t think any of us ever thought the wind could break 5 centimetre square steel posts!
Vitality Club T20 Finals Day
Well done to the 1st XI who took part in the Vitality Club T20 Finals Day at Bridgwater last Sunday – having won the Devon T20 competition, the team got to the last 32 teams nationally. They came up against a very strong Bristol side and lost their semi final match. The eventual winners on the day were Swansea Cricket Club (effectively Glamorgan 2nd XI!!)
